Into the deep end...

Okay so today I went off into the deep end and let go of a massive email campaign to improve the exposure of good old GishTeq. This morning I let loose around 200, and depending on the reactions to this bulk I will send off the other 950 soon afterwards. Perhaps maybe some of you fine readers and/or bloggers received the mailing also. Hope you liked it and didn't think right off that it was some kind of Spam attack.

My old friend Splog was quick to respond with compliments, and I really appreciate that so thanks.

If you just happened to miss out on this historic event, then I invite you to check out the mailing yourself: Had a serious look at your web site lately?

Dude, sending that message out to 250 or "maybe 900" is down right SPAM! Stop now! Mike

ah... is there not a thin thin line between spam and marketing?

I've come across some Internet companies that for a small fee can fire off emails to millions of users with a snap of the finger. So in that regard, a couple hundred emails (at least to a group of people I kind of know) doesn't seem that bad or immoral to me, now does it? Perhaps the big difference is that it is targeted rather than fired off like buck shot hoping at least one innocent soul is struck.

Indeed! Letting a campaign roll out to people that would obviously have no interest and have no relationship to an advertisement seems to fit the category of spam. But having at least thought about the audience and pared down the list to those that would have some potential interest seems to be intelligent marketing. Good Luck.

In an even more immoral kind of mood, I went away and just sent off the next batch (643) of emails, so there. And you know what? I even got some feedback, e.g. folks want to meet with me to discuss (re-)designing there company websites. Long live the fittest, the ones that dare, and all that kind of commercial bogus stuff.
